Your voice, kept private
A plain-language look at what happens to a voice memo — from the moment you press record until it's deleted.
The short version
- Only the link owner can listen. A memo goes to one private inbox. It is never public, never shown to other people who use the same link, and never used to advertise to you.
- We don't sell or share your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers.
- We don't train AI on your recordings. Memodrop never uses your audio or transcripts to train models, and our transcription provider is contractually limited to processing them on our behalf — with data-use for model training turned off on our account.
- Memos don't live forever. They are deleted automatically on a fixed schedule, or earlier whenever the owner deletes them.
- No app, no account needed to record. We only ask for your name if you choose to give it.
Who can hear a memo
Every Memodrop link belongs to one project owner. When you record, your memo lands in that owner's private inbox, protected by their sign-in. Audio files are stored privately and can only be opened through short-lived, signed links generated for the owner. The Memodrop team does not browse recordings; access for support is limited and only happens when an owner asks for help.
An owner may choose to show a project on their public Memodrop page — that page only shows the project and its recording link, never anyone's memos.
How transcription works
- Recording. Your browser records the audio and sends it over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Nothing is uploaded until you press send.
- Speech to text. The audio is sent to ElevenLabs (Scribe), a specialised speech-recognition service, which returns a written transcript. ElevenLabs processes the audio on our behalf under a data processing agreement, which contractually bars it from using the audio for its own purposes — and we've switched off data use for model training in our ElevenLabs account. It may keep short-lived processing logs under its own retention policy.
- Tidy-up and summary. The transcript is passed to an AI language model that removes filler words, adds punctuation and writes a short title and one-line summary. The original wording is kept too, so nothing you said is lost.
- Delivery. The audio, transcript and summary are saved to the owner's private inbox. Premium owners can optionally ask the AI to find common themes across several memos — this only uses memos already in their own inbox.
Where data is stored
Recordings, transcripts and accounts are stored with our cloud hosting provider, encrypted in transit and at rest. Payments are handled by Paddle — we never see or store card numbers.
How long memos are kept
- Free plan: memos are visible to the owner for 7 days, then hidden and permanently deleted (including audio) 30 days later.
- Premium: memos are kept while the subscription is active, and for 7 days after it ends.
- Anytime: the owner can delete a memo, a project or their whole account, which removes the related files.
If you recorded a memo
The project owner decides what happens to the memos they collect. If you want a memo removed, ask the person who shared the link — or email us at info@memodrop.app with the link and roughly when you recorded, and we'll help.
Reporting misuse
If a Memodrop link is used to harass, deceive or collect recordings without consent, please report it to info@memodrop.app. We review every report and remove projects that break our terms.
